Davidson County stands at the southern gateway to the Yadkin Valley Wine Appellation, one of the United States’ newest federally designated viticulture regions.  The region encompasses seven North Carolina counties, boasting over 26 wineries, and is situated on rolling hills – picturesque countryside and acres of land that once grew tobacco but now produce grapes.

Childress Vineyards

As you drive through the gates to Childress Vineyards you are immediately transported to another place in time.  The rolling hills, acres of grapevines and Italian Renaissance-styled winery seem far away from Davidson County.

NASCAR team owner Richard Childress invites you to visit his signature winery, Childress Vineyards in Lexington.  There you can taste world-class wines crafted by award-winning winemaker, Mark Friszolowski, take a guided tour of the wine making process, and enjoy a picnic lunch from the Bistro.  Be sure to save time to browse through the winery gift shop!  Come see why Wine Enthusiast magazine selected Childress Vineyards as one of America’s Top 25 Tasting Rooms.  For more information:  Childress Vineyards

Weathervane Winery

Winemakers Sid and Miranda Proctor create wine in a manner that has been proven over the centuries…by hand, ensuring you the best taste.

Often asked about the name of their winery, the Proctors explain that it comes from the huge influence the weather has on wine production – from grape development to the final stage of fermentation!

Weathervane Wines are available for purchase at Tastings (312 East Center Street, Lexington), Yarborough’s Restaurant (3 Marco Blvd, Lexington), and other retail outlets throughout the area.

Weathervane’s Tasting Room opened in the Summer of 2008.  They welcome visitors and offer tastings of 16 of their signature wines.  With North Carolina pines in the distance, the winery and vineyard are located on 7 acres in northern Davidson County.

Junius Lindsay Vineyards

Junius Lindsay Zimmerman and his bride Beatrice Estelle Evans looked for a place to begin their new life in 1894 and bought the acreage where the vineyard now lies.  Junius Lindsay cleared the land and farmed it until he was 90 years old.

The 11 acre vineyard, first planted in 2004, is nestled among forests and streams on the soil that has been proudly farmed by the family for over a century.

Grape varieties include Viognier, a rare white grape that originated in Condrieu, in France’s Northern Rhine Valley, over 2000 years ago.  Other varieties, all native to the Rhine Valley, include Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Roussanne.  As NC Vine put it so well, “If you want a true sense of a French vineyard, then Junius Lindsay is the place to go”.

In just a few short years, Junius Lindsay Wines have gained national acclaim and recognition. They are available for purchase at the Vineyards and other locations, retail locations listed on website.
